I hate to toy with a classic, but I'm so convinced that some cool whip & crushed chocolate mint cookies would set this shake off!! |
Homemade Shamrock Shake Recipe
In March the Shamrock Shake makes it way to McDonald's menu in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. I've been getting asked so much lately what I think of them. I've never tried the real version of a Shamrock Shake
I'm not really a huge mint lover but I've been craving all things minty lately. (Thin Mint girl scout cookies to be exact) but since I already had all of the ingredients to make a Shamrock Shake clone, I thought hey, why not!
I thought this recipe was pretty tasty and refreshing to basically be a vanilla ice cream/extract combo. My toddler enjoyed it way more than I did I think.
This recipe comes from Top Secret Recipes (gosh I love him). I printed it out years ago and I'm just now getting around to giving it a try. It's pretty much on every major food site with 5-star reviews so I didn't even bother making a test batch. Even though I did change up the measurements a little.
Copycat McDonalds Shamrock Shake (serves 1)
(adapted measurements from Top Secret Recipes)
2 cups vanilla ice cream
1 cup of milk
1/4-1/2 teaspoon mint extract (Not peppermint. I used 1/2 teaspoon)
Green Food Coloring
Step 1.) Add ice cream into a blender.
I used Edy's brand ice cream. Very creamy! |
Step 2.) Pour in the milk.
Use more or less, depending on your desired "shake consistency" Soymilk works to!! |
Step 3.) Add mint extract.
Step 4.) Blend until creamy.
Step 5.) Stir in green food coloring until desired shade is reached.
Step 6.)
Pour into a glass and enjoy!
Garnish with cool whip and/or chocolate mint cookies if desired!
Happy St. Patty's Day!!!!
